Greater Nexus is a premier training facility located in the heart of downtown Jamaica. Our facility is uniquely positioned to host and provide comprehensive training and licensing opportunities, ensuring the broader Queens community has access to professional development resources and dedicated training space. We are committed to fostering accessible and inclusive opportunities for growth and empowerment within the community. 

To demonstrate our dedication, here are some of the trainings and classes that have already taken place at Greater Nexus:

NexGen Tech Corps

Comprehensive 21 Century rigorous Cisco Networking Academy.  

Training:  

  • Cisco-Based Certification 

  • Introduction to Cybersecurity 

Google Career Certificate Scholarships

Google Career Certificates provide learners with the skills they need to apply for more than two million in-demand jobs across the fields of data analytics, digital marketing & e-commerce, IT support, project management, and user experience (UX) design. These certificates are taught and developed by Google employees working in these fields; they are hands-on, practical, and rigorous. Participants will receive a certification after completing the program.

Greater Nexus provides a training space with a computer to allow the general public to use the facility to train with the program.  

You Can Go to College Committee - College Admissions

Program that focuses on predominantly the college admissions process and connection to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The program includes workshops, tours, and classes specifically for SAT preparation. Catered to students in the 8th to 12th grade.

Queens Community Justice Center – Job Readiness Program for Justice Involved Youth

Participants will have the opportunity to learn work readiness, life skills and have access to placement to gain direct work experience.  

Trainings: NYS Mandated 

  • Focus Forward (Adults 18-34) 

  • Project Reset (Youth)  

  • Alternative to Incarceration (First Time Low-Level Offenders) 

  • Be Ready (Youth) 

  • Alternatives to Detention 

  • Archers 

LIFE Camp, Inc. - Summer Youth Employment and Training Program

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation’s largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each Summer.  

Through SYEP, participants can explore different interests and career pathways, develop produtive workplace habits, and engage in learning experiences that strengthen their social, civic, and leadership skills.  

Training:  

  • Career Readiness – Soft and hard skills 

  • Interviewing and Resume Preparation 

Greater Nexus and Greater Jamaica Development Corporation

Providing classes, workshops and courses in the fields of business, finance, entrepreneurship, CPR/AED certification, OSHA certification, disadvantaged business enterprise licensing, computer hardware and software certification, obtaining regulatory permits for building commercial structures, obtaining certifications for construction and building trades services, technology, civic engagement, citizenship, applying for scholarship, applying for higher education, and government contracting.  

Training:  

  • CPR/AED Certification 

  • Training will be offered to 10 community residents 

  • First Aid and CPR/AED trains participants to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illness  

  • First Aid trains you to identify and respond to common sudden illnesses such as seizures, strokes, allergic reactions, poisoning and diabetic emergencies 

  • All training classes include the following:  

  • Two-year certificates 

  • Free digital training materials and digital certificates 

In November 2024, we partnered with New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) to host their Mobile Outreach Event. The event was led by TLC Commissioner David Do, in partnership with the Office of Councilmember Dr. Nantasha Williams and NYS Senator Leroy Comrie. We helped serve 285 taxi drivers with services such as health screenings, summons resolution, and a community conversation that discussed challenges that drivers are currently facing.  

The Greater Nexus NEXT UP Small Business Initiative is an ongoing training program designed to empower both current and aspiring entrepreneurs. Each cohort offers up to five businesses free access to our facility and personalized support from our Business Services Group. This initiative helps guide entrepreneurs by connecting them with valuable resources to grow and scale their businesses.
